Since almost 3000
years, embroidery accompanies man in
his determination to embellish his
immediate environment.
Originally, suppliers to Napoleon III,
the Michonet and later on the Lesage
families, embroider since 1868.
Located in Madras since 1993, it is
this tradition that the House of
Jean-Francois Lesage, specialising in
embroidery for interiors, perpetuates
today in its hand-made work, thanks to
the fruitful collaboration between its
French team and its 120 Madrassi
master craftsmen.
Knowledge of their métier, a common
passion which livens them, a love for
a well-done work combined with a very
contemporary dynamism enables the
Jean-Francois Lesage team to express
themselves through innumerable
stitches and techniques that
hand-embroidery offers on fabrics such
as silk, linen, cotton, wool, velvet,
leather, suede, …which adorn chairs,
curtains, blinds, wall panels,
borders, bed covers and all other
textiles that go into a house.
Embroidery multiplies the number of
colours, marries the most unexpected
materials and is not limited as it can
be expressed through the most simple
tools which are the eye and the hand.
Some embroideries can necessitate
several hundreds or sometimes several
thousands of hours, having around one
single frame around twenty master
craftsmen working together. It is
often necessary to have a microscope
to make out the miniscule differences
which are part of the richness of
these works orchestrated by 40 hands.
It is this variety that the
embroidered creations of the House of
Lesage would like to show and it
regularly enriches itself with new
designs meant for the professionals of
the trade.
